As a member of the team at Housing Joint Venture, I had the unique opportunity to be a part of the company from its inception. My involvement with the company began when I completed graphic design work for its founder, and I was excited to join the team as the company was being established. In the time I worked for Housing Joint Venture, I was proud to see the company's revenue expand significantly, reaching over 1MM+ in revenue per year. This growth was supported by the company's successful management of a multi-million dollar real estate portfolio. My role at the company included a variety of tasks that contributed to this success, including designing and developing internal systems, overseeing aesthetics design for real estate developments, collaborating with a team of developers to design websites, and conducting research to inform decision-making.
As a member of the team at the Housing Joint Venture, I was responsible for a variety of tasks that contributed to the overall success of the business. One of my primary roles was to design and develop internal systems that helped to streamline and improve the efficiency of our operations. This included creating guides for using our software, publication standards for digital media, and organizational sheets for interns and virtual assistants. I also utilized various tools such as Milanote, Basecamp, Monday, Figma, and Canva to identify and implement ways to further enhance our systems.
I also played a key role in the aesthetic design of our real estate developments. This involved overseeing the staging of completed houses, developing inspiration and styling for subdivisions, and finding cost-effective ways to transform our Detroit warehouse. I had the opportunity to participate in meetings with the City of Springfield to navigate the permitting process for breaking ground on new developments. I also learned 3D modeling in SketchUp and Revit to create mockups and polished images for contractors and potential buyers.
In addition to these tasks, I also contributed to the company's marketing efforts by developing writing and Canva templates for virtual assistants to complete repetitive work and collaborating with a team of developers to perfect the front-end design of our websites and the websites of our development partners. As I gained more experience and responsibilities within the company, my role expanded to include elements of an operations manager, where I took the founders' four companies and combined them under the umbrella of Six23 Ventures, allowing for more cohesive and efficient operations--a lot of the work on this website was done for those four companies. I also conducted research on design, history, and art, and used this information to create essays and presentations that informed the company's decision-making process. Overall, my work at the housing joint venture company allowed me to utilize my creative and analytical skills to support the growth and success of the business.
My experience at HJV was a rewarding and fulfilling one.
